Why We Should Support Small Business

The statistics are staggering.  As of 2017, in the United States alone, there are 29.6 million small businesses, employing 57.9 million employees.  99.9% of U.S. businesses are small businesses, that employ 47.8% of U.S. employees. (Statistics via SBA Office of Advocacy)

Small business is the lifeblood of America.  Small business drives the economy, creates jobs, and supports our communities.

Having said all that, we must be purposeful in supporting small businesses.

Here are several insightful quotes expressing how vital small businesses are...

"My Grandfather had a paint store.  It's what put my mom through college.  Small business is part of my family history." - Sheryl Sandberg (https://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/topics/topic_business.html)

"Small business is America's engine of job creation." - Sam Graves (https://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/topics/topic_business.html)

"Small business people are people with goals and values that can't be calculated on a profit and loss statement." - Linda McMahon (https://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/topics/topic_business.html)

"We don’t ask you to support our small business because of our size. We prefer to stand on our own merit, toe-to-toe with the big guys, and ask you to support us because of who we are, what we stand for, the connections we share, and the unique value we can provide." - Keith Benjamin (http://www.laramyk.com/blog/the-mom-and-pop-business-meme-must-die/)

“Choosing to support an independent business is an act of respect; it’s acknowledging the tremendous risk and challenges inherent to starting your own thing.” - Matt Kliegman (co-founder - The Smile, The Smile To Go, Black Seed Bagels)

“Small businesses provide the feeling that a real person is behind it all, someone who cares more about giving us a quality product or service, over just taking our hard earned dollars.” - Annie Bukhman (designer, founder - Gift Shop Brooklyn).

“Support each other. Why do you need a reason to do that besides the fact that it’s the right thing to do?” - Scarr and Los Franco (co-founders - Scarr’s Pizza).

I couldn't have said it better myself.
